Merit Badge Counselor Registration

To register with the Southeast Louisiana Council as an Approved Merit Badge Counselor, you must complete the following:

• BSA Youth Protection Training.  {Note: In order to maintain current membership in the Boy Scouts of America, you must take BSA online Youth Protection Training every 2 years.}

• BSA Online Merit Badge Counselor Training

Online Merit Badge Counselor Training

• Complete and sign a Criminal Background Check Form

• Complete a BSA Adult Leader Application with a position of "042" or “Merit Badge Counselor” identified.

• Complete a Merit Badge Counselor Information Form with your contact information including email address and the enlisted merit badges identified.

Send the completed BSA Adult Application, Criminal Background Check form and Merit Badge Counselor Information form to your District Advancement Team.  The District Advancement Team will approve the Merit Badge Counselor Information form and submit the packet (BSA Adult Application, Criminal Background Check Form and Merit Badge Counselor Information form) to the Council Service Center for processing.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your District Advancement Chair or a member of the District Advancement Team. 

Note: If the BSA Adult Application, Criminal Background Check form and Merit Badge Counselor Information form are submitted directly to the Council Service Center, they will be rerouted to the District Advancement Teams for approval prior to processing.

Changing Contact Information or adding/changing their Merit Badge Assignments:

• Complete a revised Merit Badge Counselor Information Form with your current contact information including email address and the enlisted merit badges identified.

• Send the completed Merit Badge Counselor Information form to your District Advancement Team.  The District Advancement Team will approve the Merit Badge Counselor Information form and submit the form to the Council Service Center for processing.

• If the Merit Badge Counselor Information form are submitted directly to the Council Service Center, they will be rerouted to the District Advancement Teams for Merit Badge approval prior to processing.

Removing a Merit Badge Counselor:

• The Merit Badge Counselor or a member of the District Advancement Team needs to send an email to Peaches at the Council Service Center expressing the desire to have the Merit Badge Counselor’s BSA Registration tagged as expired.
